This lecture focuses on the most complicated joint in the human body, the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ). An anatomic review of the region will be accompanied by real patient CBCT images to improve familiarity. TMJ Degenerative disease (TMD) pathosis and guidelines for identification of active disease will be discussed, aiding in the determination of occlusal stability.
Re-familiarize TMJ anatomy and physiology, with CBCT as baseline image modality
Identify the nature of TMJ degeneration
Quantify disease severity
Determine if degeneration is active

This course will reintroduce anatomy commonly seen in dental CBCT imaging, using a methodical system to prevent missed findings. While working systemically through the volume, there will be a focus on incidental findings, and the importance of documentation and appropriate referrals. A case study will bring this renewed knowledge together.
Create a stepwise process for image evaluation
Review systemic anatomy highlighting incidental findings in each region
Reinforce proper documentation of important incidental findings
